While on a Sanibel Island fishing charter, it may be easier to fish for a snook than to catch a
snook.  These fish are known to be challenging, unpredictable & stubborn which is why I think they
appeal to so many anglers.  The peak season for Florida Snook fishing is from March to June,
during spawning.  Snook can be caught by fishing in deep waters  with strong tides, bridges, canals,
& piers.  You'll catch the bigger snook at night because that's when they actively feed.  Slot size is
within 28-33".
Redfish are one of the most sought after game fish when your fishing the back bays of Sanibel Island
and Fort Myers Fl.  Redfish are known for being of bronze color with a spot on the base of their tail.
This species is often found in less than one foot of water feeding on fish and crustaceans.  This is
where the term "tailing redfish" comes from.  Shrimp, Pinfish, and cut baits are excellent for
catching Redfish.  Slot size for keepers is within 18"- 27".  One per person.
Trout are easy to catch year round while fishing Sanibel Island and Fort Myers.  Their average size
ranges from 16-20".  Trout are described as having an elongated body with a large mouth, silver
color with small black dots.  They can be caught on shallow, sandy bottoms in bays and estuaries;
on live bait, jigs & spoons etc...  It's not uncommon to catch a trout on every cast if your on a good
hole.
Also known as the Silver King,  the first Tarpon ever caught on rod and reel was in 1855 using a
thumb stall reel with white linen line right here fishing Sanibel Island, in Tarpon Bay.   Most
Tarpon landed are between 25 to 80 pounds but can go up to about 300 pounds.  Natural baits
used in the pursuit of Tarpon can be crab, Pinfish, Mullet, and Pilchards.  These species are mostly
caught while fishing in the Tarpon capital of Boca Grande on a drift.
